Meet Dave!
Hello workers,
today I want to introduce a lovely friend of workisnotajob. to you. It’s David Brown, the man behind the super awesome blog for creative inspiration Holiday Matinee and Community Manager at Etsy. He shares what “work is not a job” means to him and also has some neat recs for you to check out. After reading this, you should have a look at what he and the Holiday Matinee gang are up to and make it a daily bookmark. Their Motto: Love you work, work your love. Couldn’t have said it any better. Enoy!
what does workisnotajob. mean to you?
It means you’re one of the few people in this world who are doing exactly what you’re meant to be doing. It might take a few bumps, a few shitty side jobs and a whole lot of mac-n-cheese dinners, but you’ll get there, and when you do, it’ll be better than Stevie Wonder’s “Uptight (Everything’s Alright). Ok, maybe not Stevie, but it’s awesome.
I’ve been so lucky to meet and work with so many awesome people who fall in the workisnotajob bucket of radness. And it’s totally inspiring. It makes me incredibly proud to support them or give em a little push when needed. You see, there’s so much noise in this world and so many people will try and tell you what they think is right for you. Guess what? Only you know what’s right for you. And when you figure it out, when you find that thing you love, the music gets louder, the car drives faster and the whole world suddenly feels, right. You’ve found your place. You love your work and work your love. And the magic you make is going to shake things up. If not, give me a call and I’ll pick you up.
what’s on your top 3 right now?
1. ”Life is Hard. Here is someone.” - the blog of Meaghan O’Connell is a daily bookmark of goodness for me. Full of honesty, wit and awesomeness. I’ve never met Meaghan but her writing has me secretly crushing. http://meaghano.com/
2. Turntable Kitchen - are you a foodie?my friend Kasey and her husband Matt started this great site where they pair food with music. It’s brilliant and the pairing is usually right on.http://www.turntablekitchen.com/
3. We Are Hunted - i’ve been obsessed with music ever since my first concert, The Beach Boys, age six @ garden state arts center. fast forward 28 years and there’s finally a music site that fills every aspect of my design, UI and music palette. http://wearehunted.com/
High five Dave!
